I think I liked the George H.W. Bush rumor best. Imagine the uproar if Bush I had thrown Nixon under the bus in Pappy's ultimately successful efforts at creating a family dynasty! Buchananite Republicans would have grabbed their pitchforks and torched the place. Even a fairly staunch conservative like myself would appreciate the ensuing bloodlust and recriminations.
